How to Flip Negativity Into Empowerment for Real Estate Success

Ever heard the phrase there is power in proximity? I believe it with all my heart. In fact, I believe in it so much that I named my website after it!

The people you surround yourself with, the voices you hear, and the energy you absorb shape your mindset, your actions, and ultimately, your success. If you spend time with people who are always complaining, gossiping, or lacking ambition, you’ll find yourself slipping into the same patterns. But when you intentionally align yourself with motivated, forward-thinking, and positive individuals, your world changes.

Let’s dive into how proximity, mindset, and accountability can transform not just your business—but your entire life.


Negative Self-Talk and Subconscious Programming

I recently spoke with an agent stuck in negative self-talk. She didn’t realize it, but she was programming her subconscious for failure.

Here is an example of something you may say that is disempowering and how to fix it.

I never remember anyone's name...

Your subconscious takes those statements as truth and shapes your reality accordingly. But you can shift that!

Instead, say:

In the past, I always forget people's names—but NOW, I am so grateful and blessed that I always remember everyone's name. 

Practice it over and over and you will retrain your mindset and watch what happens.. I did this personally and have retrained my brain.

The Importance of Accountability

If you want to reach new levels, accountability is essential. I used to avoid accountability partners because I didn’t want to be “called out.” But I realized—it’s not about judgment; it’s about growth.

Every Monday, I meet with my eXp partners to set goals, track progress, and adjust strategies. It’s not about guilt—it’s about creating momentum. When you surround yourself with like-minded, goal-oriented people, you push each other forward.

If you’ve been avoiding accountability, I challenge you to shift your perspective. Find someone on the same mission as you, check in with each other, and watch your progress accelerate.

The People You Run With Determine Your Path

Look at your circle. Are they:

  • Always complaining?

  • Talking about others instead of focusing on their own growth?

  • Lacking motivation?

If so, it might be time to create some distance. When I moved from Michigan, I had to completely shift my environment, leaving behind people who weren’t aligned with the life I wanted. It wasn’t about cutting people off with anger—it was about loving them from a distance while building a life that empowered me.

Since joining eXp Realty seven years ago, my environment has completely transformed. The mindset, collaboration, and empowerment within this community have elevated my business and life. My license plate even says “EMPOWERED” because that’s how I choose to live.

If you want to grow, be intentional about who you let into your space. Surround yourself with people who lift you up, not drag you down.

Self-Talk Awareness: Reprogram Your Mindset

Here’s a challenge: pay attention to how you answer the question, How are you?

Do you say:

  • I’m okay.

  • I’m fine.

  • Not too bad.

Or do you say:

  • I’m fantastic!

  • I’m outstanding!

  • I’m having an amazing day!

That simple shift changes your energy and the way people interact with you. Try it. Next time someone asks how you are, answer with enthusiasm and see how they respond.

I learned this from a manifestation coach who taught me that what you say programs your subconscious. Your words create your reality—so be intentional with them.

Personal Growth Strategies: Keep Learning & Expanding

If you’re serious about growth, you need to be learning constantly. I’ve been in personal development since the ‘90s, and one of my best habits is consuming knowledge through audiobooks.

I listen to books at double speed because I think fast, talk fast, and want to absorb as much as possible. Whether I’m driving or taking a walk, I’m filling my mind with valuable insights.

Think about it: if you commit to just one book a month related to your business or personal development, imagine where you’ll be a year from now compared to someone who doesn’t. That’s the power of continuous learning.

And let me tell you—successful people read. They invest in their minds. If you want to level up, you have to be intentional about your input.

Run With the Right Crowd—Your Future Depends on It

So let me ask you: are you running with the right people? Are you feeding your mind with empowering thoughts? Are you holding yourself accountable?

Because at the end of the day, there is power in proximity.

Run with people who inspire you. Speak words that uplift you. And build an environment that supports your growth.
