My lineage is Real Estate where there was both success & struggle

My grandfather was the first president of the builders association in Michigan. My father partnered with him to build Co-Op Apartments because Condo's were illegal in Michigan at the time. My family moved to Georgia when my mother was 48 with two young children in tow to restart their lives. My father built one home there but never regained his traction however my mother because a very successful Realtor. I saw her struggle in the industry and was looking for a better way and I finally found it.

I got into Real Estate in 2006

I had just moved from Michigan, broke at age 55, only knew my daughter and starting life over. I was a Financial Planner for 23 yrs which helped greatly to get a head start in Real Estate. I decided being from Michigan ( land of lakes ) I would focus on the lake properties. I started with Coldwell Banker as the market was climbing at a bizarre rate. Nothing made sense as I tracked the appeciation and the carelessness in loans. I didn't feel I was getting the kind of direction I had hoped for and chose to move to ReMax within a few years.

Within a year I formed a 7 yr partnership with a Fellow Agent

The market had crashed and we focused in on what we needed to not only survive but thrive. I created a system how we would work expired down a particular waterfront peninsula in Mooresville that proved to be very profitable. We are in Race City and both Patti (my business partner) and I were car people. One day Patti came to work our Saturday expired in a fully restored 65 Vette with some amazing headers. She was a beauty and a marketing magnet. Between that system and working Short Sales our business exploded. We were the Betts Byrnes Team and stayed at ReMax for a little over 5 yrs as partners there.

We dove into our Numbers and realized we were paying way too much money to Remax for what we were getting. Lot's of Changes Coming

We looked at all the comp plans for all the companies in our area of Lake Norman and Charlotte. From that, we chose to move to Sellstate Select which was a new franchise in the area. The fees were based on a franchise fee, a transaction fee and a new twist to us, they had a form of agent attraction bonus that was very appealing. It was our first insight into residual income. I saw the appeal of this process however it only paid on the first level of agents and there was no validation of the numbers you were paid. We always came up with unique marketing ideas to target our ideal clients. That unique marketing along with our systems and stragies got us great results.

That's when the world changed in so many ways for me personally

Patti decided to leave the partnership (all good). I had to get my mother from Georgia with Dementia and handle her care. The boys I helped raise on weekends for 3 yrs moved back with their mother. I left Sellstate after not much more than a year as it too didn't live up to our hopes. Off to try KW for about 8 months and then came to the next true life changing moments of my life. I joined the Lepage Johnson Mega Team, two weeks later we moved to eXp Realty ( best business move ever) and the single best part was the birth of my only granddaughter Olivia.

Collaboration on Steroids, a Stock Portfolio and Residual Income all wrapped up in a Fun Way to Work

From the moment I got into Real Estate I worked 7 days a week days and evenings first to build a business, especially in a failed market and then to sustain it. I failed forward more times than I can count. Along the way I became a waterfront specialist respected in my field by my peers and a large mass of raving fans that I have served. Then along comes Covid and the creativity happened again. In lockdown, I started a daily zoom on what was happening in the market. I interviewed all kinds of experts to help sooth fears and come up with solutions. I sold homes via Facetime and managed inspections and closings thru it all. The best part was that we came out on top with a plan once again. All through the struggle, I was building a stock portfolio and building a team of agents of my own growing in over 10 states. Now I had transaction sales, residual income and a stock portfolio and that equals financial freedom and time freedom.
